Film test - Yashica MAT124G. My daughter Roma wanted to shoot a medium format camera. This is her first attempt. Here is what she thought of it.. To give some background to these photographs, this is my Nan. For my A level photography work i have been inspired by Glen Erler and his Family Tree project.

The Yashicamat 124 takes simply astoundingly sharp pictures. Here are some samples shot on Fuji Velvia (an E-6 slide film) and scanned with the Epson Perfection 2400, a standard flatbed scanner with a transparency adaptor that costs around $300.

A friend passed along his father's mint-condition camera to me and honestly, I was intimidated by it. It was just too cool looking and I was the shy nerdy girl.

The 124G is a 6×6 format TLR, which means that there are two lenses: the top one is the viewing lens and has a widest aperture of 2.8 and below this is the taking lens which goes as wide as 3.5. Both lens are 80mm, because of the configuration of the lens there can be some parallax error but you only really notice this when working close up.
